Ear Problems, Pro Ear 2000 the solution?
« on: January 06, 2007, 10:49:19 PM »
Well guys,  every dive trip, I come home to an ear infection.  If it's not an ear canal... it's an inner.  ENT's are expensive and pointless IMO.  MEA can do the same as what they do, prescribe meds!

Do you think the Pro Ear 2000 would resolve my canal infections?

As for the inner ears... I called DAN and spoke with their on staff doctor, he said it's just bacteria getting into my nose through the water and hitting my tubes.. uh ok.  I'm sure I know how this is happening...  Easy fix though, fix the fogging issue on my mask so I don't have to clear it.. right?  :D

Let me explain..  Everytime my mask fogs, I have to clear my mask right?  EVERYTIME I clear it, there's a small amount of water at the bottom (1/2 teaspoon maybe) that tends to get into my nose!

Donwray,  I saw you posted on Scubaboard about your Proear, but all it said was you have one and you love it.  If you wouldn't mind telling me a little about it I would appreciate it :)

Hi Frank...The cups cover your ears keeping all the water out.  It has tubes that lead from the mask to the ear pockets to allow you to equalize.  Your problem seems to come from water in your mask entering your ear canals through your nose.  The proear cannot help with that aspect.  I don't know what solution you could come up with except to try and find a mask that doesn't flood on you.  I have yet to find one due to the fact that when you smile or move any of your facial muscles while underwater, there are times water will seep in.  Wish I could help you more.

I was diagnosed with "Barotrama"

Supposedly it's damage to the middle ear due to not equalizing fast enough.  I know when I did it, it wasn't due to a decent though.  I had ear plugs in, I pushed on the plug and it caused it, I felt it happen =\

Good news though, I'm on meds to fix the infections I have in my ear now so I should be good to go in 1-2 weeks!!!  WOOT!

The Pro ear still sounds like a good option for me though..

I think you'd like it.  I hate walking around for weeks after a dive with that sloshing in my ears.  Good news on the fix from the doc.  Equalize early and often.
