Thinking about going with DSS? Are you going with a new diver getting certified?
I might go the first weekend or maybe the second weekend.

No, they said it was open to anyone who wanted to tag along. They said they woudl have plenty of certified divers to buddy up with and ask questions.

Ahh, ok. The way it sounded was that they were charging you or something. My mistake. Yes, http://www.divealabama.com is open to everyone and 9.75 chances out of 10, you can easily find a dive buddy. I might actually be able to make the 8th and 9th. I'd be bringing my nephew and we all three can dive or find you a dive buddy. I hope I can at least, I'll be doing a dive the 29th and 30th in Pensacola. Wanna go there? I've chartered a boat for those two days. 98.00 per diver and 9.50 per AL80 tank unless you bring your own. Very nice quarry and very nice operators. You will love it.
Water gets cold when you go deeper, around 75' on the left side of the quarry it gets to 55-56 degrees around the school bus, so be prepared for that. They rent 5mm suits there with rubber cuffs at the hands and ankles.
They have a fill station on site and nitrox if your interested. They do PP blending so your tank would need to be O2 clean.
Have fun!

You are in Brandon, so that wouldn't be an issue.
We do need to test Frank's new van out. Gotta see how it drives, how many divers + gear it will hold, and just see how it works out as a dive van.
Who's in?

Fine by me, as long as you leave her your truck to cart the kids around in. Driver doesn't pay for gas split! I always get left with the cleanup and smelly vehicle after a dive trip!

I would recommend a hood. Problem at this point, I will have to go either the weekend before or weekend after 8-9. My wife has scheduled to be with her friend on her birthday on the 8th but didn't put it on the calendar. In our house, whoever makes plans first gets to do their thing.

I'm planning to go the first weekend of September if any of you are interested. I'd recommend a hood as well if you plan to go deeper than 40' or so. I like my dry suit and my 3mm hood. The hood is just warm enough yet, doesn't muffle out to much above water. Michael

I would take a hood... I went to Pelham about a week and a half ago and my didve computer registered 59 degrees at a max depth of 75 feet. i didnt take a hood b/c it was my first time diving there and i forgot it in my car that i left in tuscaloosa. you may even want to wear some gloves as well. i wore my 3mm shorty and my 3 mm full and my body was comfortable but my hands and head were cold. hope this helps.

I dove there this past Saturday. Viz was horrible. 10-15 by the platforms 5 or less at depths. Computer registered 61 at 68 feet over by the sailboat. I was diving a 3 mil shorty and a pair of gloves. Coldest I have ever been in the water. Next dive I was in a 3 mil full depth of 55 feet and was comfortable. I just could not get over how bad the viz was.

Guys, I can go the weekend of 15th. I'm wanting to hold out until a friend of mine gets back from Cozumel, he wants to join us. Also, my wife has a prior engagement on the the 8th.
We could always go down for 1 day? Leave early Sunday morning (9th) and come back that night?
