No, I wouldn't waste your time making the drive all the way down...this is a man-made pond (if you will) vis on a good day is 0-15ft, the deepest hole that i have been able to find is right at 18ft and that's with my gauge in the mud....we use this location because it's close to the university and we have a platform in the center! it's the best controlled environment that we have in H'burg that we have access to. we test underwater skills, navigation, and have a little ropes course once all skills are tested...i would recommend waiting til may 1st and 2nd to tag along to the vortex and destin trip...but by all means! everyone is welcome...i wasn't joking when i mentioned mud puddles in my introduction - LoL

I live within walking distance of USM, Have even considered taking the dive course there JUST to use the pool.
Are you taking them to the jetties on the may dive? Don't forget to tell them how to barf underwater, best skill I ever learned I think. LOL

sorry it's been so long since i've been on this thing...i have been busy with work and came down with the flu!  I wasn't able to make the dives in destin or at vortex but i heard that everything went well...No, as far as i know the lake is called "Cox Lake" it is right off of Hwy 98 W right before you get to Old Hwy 11...the guy that owns the property is putting up a bunch of apartments...I have recently found several other gravel pits that me and a few others are trying to get permission to! I dove one two weekends ago! The water table was up 8feet but this would make it only 4 feet when the water is down - great vis though...i heard that they are supposed to start dredging soon! I am going to start training my girlfriend soon, so we will have some dives coming up! she's originally from Gulfport so I'l try and look some of ya'll up when we are in the area...Good luck and safe diving everyone!
