Jan 31, 2009 Dive Report
« on: February 03, 2009, 03:37:32 PM »
Well, We finally did it, Shrek (bottombrowser), semperfido, and I went out to the triple rigs, in my boat, on Saturday but the vis from the boat look awful. We decided to venture out a lil farther to another rig #69A that was sitting in 104' of water. The surface temp was around 58-59 deg. Water Temp was showing 60 deg on the garmin and 62 deg on the dive comp. We dropped down to around 61' on the first dive, vis was around 10-12 ft. and diminishing as we went down so we decided that was far enough. The seas were around 3' and the current was a lil tough but not uncomfortable. I was staying on the safe side because I hate being cold and wore a 3 mil under a 5 mil :) with a 3 mil hoody, boots and reef gloves. Dont think I even got wet on the core, lmao. Defiantly didnt get COLD :) Bottombrowser and simperfido took along the spear guns for some lunch meat :) took a couple sheephead on this dive. Bottombrowser and I went in for a second dive to around 32' for some more fish, since all thy were catching from the boat were snapper....... Bottombrowser took a nice lemon fish on this dive. It was a blast for me, my first dive in the GOM and really enjoyed it, other than losing my dive ladder in 104' of water due to the seas. Later.....

Here's that Ling.  Had a blast.  Thanks again Corey.  Oh and those weren't sheephead, they are called Bay Snapper, LOL!!!  I got down to 70'.  Where were you?  Yeah, I was almost over-dressed in my 7-6-5.  You made a perfect fish stringer.  I couldn't have asked for a better cobia wrestler, LOL!  He dang sure didn't want that stainless stringer in his gill and really didn't like that ice pick tip through his head.  I'd have been mad too.  Those big ole red snapper don't  know how lucky they are with me being honest and them being out of season, or it would have been curtains for some of those sows.  Semperfido said he saw a nice amberjack when we went down on the first dive.  I can't wait for summer and June 1st, opening day of Red Snapper season.  The visibility definitely had gotten worse in just that short hour we had for our surface interval.  But it was just cool to sit there in that big ole fish tank and watch the different fish swim by.  They didn't care we came to slaughter and pillage their loved ones from the depths.  That sucked losing the ladder though.  We overcame it and made it work.  Till next time.............

I absolutely had a blast.  Corey and his dad were gracious hosts and the boat was awesome.  The fish were plentiful and the company was great.  I found out I had a lot to learn about spearfishing! ::)  I cant wait til the water is warm and we can do a spearfishing tournament! Oh and Shrek, you forgot the best picture...  Its of Shrek showing my eight year old daughter what a nice lemon fish is.  You got to admit she was brave for a little girl.  Thanks again Corey and Shrek!!!!!

Sounds like you guys had a great time.  Makes me wish I wasn't 6 hours from the coast.

Thanks for the report.
