Emerald Coast diving
« on: July 14, 2008, 07:03:33 AM »
Well I figured I'd go ahead give the run-down on yesterday's dive trip. Daniel was a good sport and welcomed my last minute dive request. So we met up the next morning, exchanged hugs - ya know, meeting for the first time n all finally... :P

We headed for Gulf Shores/Orange Beach to check it out. Walked down to the beach behind Bahama Bob's only to think to ourselves, "man, wish we came here to just lay out on the beach!" Well, that was a fantasy that ended real quick. Time to gear up. Walked right thru a crowd of swimmers and beach babes as if they weren't there. There was a yellow flag on shore indicating medium hazard... okay, no problem. But where the heck was the PURPLE FLAG!!??? There were jellyfish everywhere! I thought I was bein attacked by aliens!

Daniel and I did the right thing by calling the dive.

We packed up and decided to try moving a little farther east. We checked out Perdido Pass, only to find the jellyfish were worse there than just down the beach. RATS! Well, it was time to keep moving. We traveled to P-cola to see just how fast them jellies were moving. We stopped at MBT divers and they said the jeelies were pretty bad there too, and that there moving this way. After Daniel found his next BC and  :spam1:'d all over it for a minute... we high-tailed it to Destin. Just before the bridge he thought quick and pulled off to the right where we found a nice little haven. We both didn't know that was even there. After checkin it out and finding no jellies, we figured this was it. We didn't even don our wetsuits. Just grabbed our gear and jumped in! Since the current was pretty strong, we ended up doin a drift dive @ 5 ~ 8 fsw.

Not a bad day of diving when you can at least get wet! Whether from diving, or gettin rained on! We could've almost got a 3rd dive in the Burger King parking lot.... oh well, maybe next time.

  • Every dive is optional. Every ascent is mandatory.

I prefer to win them all though...

Glad you had a decent time!  Next time give some warning and I might take a road trip!
