Could us some help.
« on: June 13, 2008, 08:33:27 AM »
This is short notice, but I am going to Pensacola Saturday AM, 6/14 to explore shore dive sites.  I need to find a couple of good shore dives for OW checkout dives.  I have been going to Panama City Beach, but with the price of gas and other expenses going up, I need to find a more cost effective place for checkout dives for my students.

Any suggestions?  I have been reading about Whiskey Wreck.  Can someone give me directions?

I have two of my recent certified divers going with me, if anyone else would like to join, you are welcome.  Message me and I will give you my cell #.

West Beach Blvd and W 5th St.

See where the "d" is in West Beach Blvd? Bahama Bobs (BBs) is right there. Get out behind BB's in the water and look back at BBs. You will see a sign on top of BBs building. Line up directly with that and swim out about 75 to 100 yards. Drop down and in about 15'+- of water is the Whiskey Wreck.

Sorry I can't make it, otherwise I'd love to.

Good luck.

Staying home this weekend...

My gravel road is full of holes and the trees and brush are about to scrape the paint off my Explorer going down the driveway.  Its time for some yard work.  Next weekend... well that is a different story... most likely be at JB diving sidemount in my home cave system.  Put my E8-130s in hydro/vip and they should be out next Friday, so I will pick them up on the way out of town.

The following week it is up to New Jersey to Point Pleasant for my TDI Advanced Wreck diving class with Richie Kohler.  The class is being conducted at his house!  I am psyched... looking forward to some great wreck diving.  We will be doing 6 wreck dives, and the water temps will be in the low 50s at depth.

After that, going to San Diego for 6 to 8 months, and only home every other weekend or so.  :(  But!  I will be checking out the systems in Baja, Catalina and general west coast beach diving.

Will be at the Invade the Keys weekend wreck diving party in Key Largo July 11th to 14th, but July 4th weekend is open if anyone is looking for a wreck dive buddy... Still looking to hit the O this year before the stinging nettles get bad again.

Hi DeWayne,

The Whiskey is actually in Gulf Shores, but I'm sure you've figured that out from Michael's map. I understand that there are some places to dive at the Perdido Key bridge. Might be best to contact one of the Gulf Shore dive shops and see if they have any maps.

See ya!

Alot of people go to Vortex Springs for check out dives. It's $19.00 a person now I think.

Shane is trying to make Vortex Springs the premier training facility for SCUBA diving.  He is upgrading all of the housing.  He has upgraded and added nitrox and helium (Trimix) compressed gas systems.  He is planning alot more.  The only downside is that it gets very silty when there are crowds there, which is every weekend.  Inside the cave it clears up nicely though. ;D
