I am new to anything scuba or snorkel. I just recently started snorkeling and absolutely love it. So the next step in my mind was to start scuba diving. Since I live in North Mississippi all I know of are lakes to dive in, unless I drive to the Gulf, and the visibility is really horrendous. Anyway my questions are this...where around the Tupelo area can you get training and are there any places within an hour or two of Tupelo worth snorkeling and/or diving at. Thanks

First and foremost, welcome to the board!

You've made a wise choice going from snorkeling to diving, it's a great upgrade!

As far as Tupelo goes, Chefchris would be able to help you with that.  I believe one of the best places to get training is in Memphis, but DonWray may be able to give you that info.  You should hear from Don within the next day or so, he is one of our main greeters!   ;D

Welcome Jon!!!  It's great to have you here!!  I also snorkeled for years before getting certified.  It's SOOOOOO much better being able to actually get up close and personal with the things that I previously had to "look upon from above".  It's all about having fun (and being safe).....  Be sure to check back here often... There's always someone looking for a diving partner!

Hey Jon!

I snorkeled in Cozumel one time. My brother-in-law scubaed below me... I flipped him off and swore that when I got back to the states, I was getting certifed. About three months later, Frank and I got certified. A (good) downward spiral since. :)

Welcome aboard, let's go diving...

Hi Jon, Welcome to the board.  I'm about an hour east of you on the north side of Sardis Lake on Piney Point in Harmontown.  I am in Memphis right now with classes everyday this week, some twice a day.  Give me a chance to get home this weekend and we can either go to chat or pm me and we'll see if I can help you.

Don,

I talked to one of the guys who is planning on OW cert. They have not already signed up with other dive shop, so would be very interested as you are so much closer. How much is OW cert? They are also needed their EFR refresher also. All our cards went out the same time. So maybe we could have a class of 4 or 5. I told him i probably won't hear back til the weekend. So let me know the price. class shedule, and OW dive site.

Thanks,

Todd
