Well getting kinda nervous
« on: February 20, 2008, 10:35:20 PM »
Well sports fans, one week from today I start my IDC in Vero Beach Florida at Eastern Academy of Scuba Education.  I've been hitting the books hard on the physics and physiology, equipment and re-learning the wheel.  Lost 30 lbs. since Jan. 1 and can run a mile and a half again.  I'll be trying to keep a journal of the experience and I'll let ya'll know what goes on.  I take the IE on the 7th and 8th.  I decided against taking the MSDT prep right now due to all this reading and bookwork that's required before you ever leave for the class.  All the books and knowledge reviews from OW through DM, 3 other books on business, a book on kids, 16 LONG knowledge reviews must be completed when you arrive and so much other stuff just to prepare to start the class.  I will be taking EFR instructor course and EANx instructor after the IE. (If I pass) :o  I will say it makes you alittle nervous hoping you've got it all down pat. Again, I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

This might have been answered in a previous thread, but what agency are you training with for your IDC?

I wish you luck, but I'm sure you won't need it!  Being nervous IMO, is good!  It means you know the material but your not sure if it's the right material.. that's how I've always looked at it!

I'm guessing your next big trip will be to Cozumel as a resort instructor?   :o

I am going with PADI, that's who I've been with all along and that's who the shop I've been DMing at is.  The instructor there wants to pay more attention to her other business, travel agent and destination weddings, so I'm taking over the dive instruction and will go on most of the dive trips to do training.  And I talked with some folks about filling in on some liveaboards for a few weeks as needed for the full time folks to vacation etc.  I'll go back to Florida in a few months and take the MSDT prep, the DAN courses, Aqualung reg repair and PSI VIP.  I'll know more about all that when I get past this hurdle.

I feel like I know the material and will see soon. ???

I sure will, just checked this morning before coming up here to Memphis for a OW class tonight and down 3 more lbs.  I've got to take some photos for PADI before I leave and I'll have the bride take some for here....with clothes on.  On second thought, Michael had offered to model that thong the other day but deleted his post before too many people read it. :booty:

Well, I'm home!  I will be posting a blow by blow for those who think they may want to give the IDC/IE a shot....but real quickly, LONG HOURS, LONG DAYS, TOUGH, TOUGH TOUGH.  Pick a good IDC, be prepared when you get there as it is not remedial.  The IDC teaches you to teach, not the things you should already know when you get there.

Oh, BTW, you can change my status Frank...I passed.  OWSI, EFR/CFC/AED instructor, and Enriched air instructor.  Was going for Wreck, Deep, Nav., and night but I had such a terrible cold, I couldn't equalize, so I put those off for later.

Heh heh!  I'll be more than happy anytime to run up to chat for any questions to work through.  I love the physics part and really nailed that.  Very simple once you understand what the question is.

Thanks for the encouragement before I went from my pals on MSSCUBA.  I promoted our site to all the guys at the class.
