Oceanic, Aeris SCUBA regulators recalled
« on: December 12, 2007, 09:33:14 AM »
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall Tuesday of about 6,000 Oceanic- and Aeris-brand SCUBA regulator first stages.

The CPSC said an internal component that seals air between the product's high pressure first-stage and the intermediate pressure second-stage can fail, resulting in uncontrolled air flow to the diver and posing a risk of serious injury or death.

The distributor of the regulators, ROMI Enterprises of San Leandro, Calif., said it has received two reports of units malfunctioning during diving and six reports of units malfunctioning while being tested by dealers prior to delivery to consumers.

The recalled regulators, manufactured in the United States and Taiwan, were either sold or repaired at authorized Oceanic and AERIS retailers nationwide from May 2006 through October 2007. The items sold for between $300 and $500.

Consumer with questions can contact the company at 888-636-9390. A listing of recalled model numbers is available at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08127.html.
