Morrison or Vortex?
« on: October 30, 2007, 08:22:29 PM »
Me and an old friend were wanting to get together next month go either the Morrison or vortex springs, I know that they are right next to each other but what are the real differences between the two?

Morrison. Definately. We dove Vortex one time, then did Morrison for the rest of the 5 dives. Vortex was very boring. Small cavern, terrible vis, and costs money.

Morrison is free and has a lot more to look at.
I have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men.

Vortex sucks... Morrison rocks... next question? :)

You can rent a canoe from Vortex and go dive Cypress Springs.  You would need to get directions, I've never been there.  I hear Cypress is a very nice dive.

WARNING:  It has a huge outflow of water..  Not sure why that matters but I saw someone mention that on one of their dive reports.

i'm up for a dive trip next month. i'd love to hit cypress as well as morrison (or go to ginnie instead, 5 springs for $20 bucks i think). never been to cypress but its easy to find if you get good directions. pierce can tell you what happens with bad directions. :)

Status:  As of July 2002 Cypress is closed and development of houses around the spring is well under way. This is now private property and only accessible by canoe or small boat.  You must launch at a ramp several miles south of the spring and paddle upstream to reach the spring.

That's why I said you can rent a canoe, it's still accessible by water.   All of the land surrounding Cypress is private property.

Nope, not yet!  It's on my list of places to dive this year...

well how about the weekend of March 1st and 2nd? It's as good a weekend as any other, right? Plus my LDS planned to go to Vortex and camp out that weekend. He didn't know Morrison is closed, but thinks it's still diveable.

I'm not sure. Anybody know how to find out?
