Pelham (almost) Dive Sunday 10/14
« on: October 15, 2007, 09:49:12 AM »
Decided late Saturday to get up and drive to Pelham.  Almost started bad.  Had a friend over and she was asking questions about equipment.  Learned that my brand new VT3 that has never been in the water had a dead battery.  Discovered this at 3:57 3 minutes before the dive shop closes.  Called Deep South Scuba and was informed that Oceanic shipped out 150 computers with a firmware version that turned the screen off but not the computer and was running batteries down.  Out of the 2 that were shipped to MS I got one of them.

I was told that DSS had everything I needed to repair the problem but they were out of the USB cables needed to repair the problem and they were closing. I have the USB cable and I told Carla to leave everything I needed at the restaurant next door.  They did, I was back up and running in 15 minutes.

Headed out 7:30 am Sunday we were wet by 11:30.  Only was able to log one dive due to dive buddy having equipment malfunction and then a health issue.

We did however find a nice sports bar with good wings and cold beer.  Watched some football had a good time despite the problems.

Maybe next time will have a better dive report.

  • Every dive is optional. Every ascent is mandatory.

Ah man that always sucks to have to cancel a dive, but it's part of the sport and it's good to have a dive buddy like yourself that respected it.

When I went to Pelham and ended up driving home w/o getting below 15' due to ear issues, I'm sure my dive buddy was frustrated.

Maybe next time!
