Golf Ball Recovery

Anybody on here ever done any golf ball recovery?  I ran across a help wanted ad a while back....  I'm not interested, but I was curious if anyone on here has done it.  They claim $30-$40k a year if you are good and live in the right area....  That's bringing up a lot of balls!!!

I never did, but read an article on it once (maybe 3 years ago). It seems that in some areas it can be quite lucrative - so much so, that people have been shot for "golf ball poaching". From what I remember of the article, most divers get contracts with the golf course(s) to dive the ponds. And it's pretty much braille diving, just feeling your way across the bottom of a mudhole... is that a ball? or a snake? or an aligator?...

this caught my attention a month or so ago. I did some searching on it and it seems many people are worried about contaminents in the ponds. I work in a sign shop and am currently redoing a golf course sign, i considered asking the guy what they do about submerged golfballs and how much they'd be willing to pay to recover them, just out of curiosity.

I think "Dirty Jobs" did this one time and it seemed very lucrative. They were getting 40K+ balls and selling them out. I think if you could get a contract with several course, it'd almost be worth it. Again, depending on the quality of the water. I'd definitely get used/old equipment to do it in. :)

When I lived in Florida recycled golf balls were big business.  Several companies had divers on staff and contracts with several public and semi-private course for golf ball recovery.  WaL-Mart carries several different types of recycled golf balls.
