I would have to agree with this article, especially on the valsalva technique (which is what most people use). Many times after a dive I would come up and my ears would be hurting, most likely due to blowing just a little to hard and slightly overflexing the ear drum, which in turns generates irritation.
Most of the time while sitting at my desk I'll do neck stretches, I try to concentrate on the area that I am stretching as I find it helps. To stretch out your E-tubes, to stretch the left, look up, lean your head to the right, reverse this to do the right side. Over time you should be able to equalize using the other methods.
