Got a new regulator setup, awesome price, IMO!
« on: June 19, 2007, 03:45:32 PM »
Well, currently I dive an Oceanic Alpha 8 w/ PX3 first.  It's a good regulator, but I wanted something that would breathe a little better.  I've been told that the metal regs will retain moisture so that's the type of reg I bought.  I ended up purchasing the Mares Abyss 22 setup, I got it for $150 below any site you can find online, brand new.  After a long debate with Michael on what size hose I should run, I decided to go ahead and buy a 7' hose for my primary, we'll see how that pans out on my first few dives w/ the new setup! :D

I haven't been able to dive it yet, but plan to next weekend, either locally (in our new found dive location) or at the MS/AL/FL coast somewhere.  I'll keep everyone posted on how well it performs.

I will say, with my Alpha 8 setup, I did get drymouth very fast.  I was told it was because I didn't keep hydrated before/between/after my dives, which is bogus.  I ALWAYS drink atleast 5 bottled waters daily.  Days that I go diving I drink I'd guess a gallon or more and I drink alot during my SI.  Same thing might happen on this new setup, but that's TBD.

Although, the Alpha 8 setup will go on a deco setup when I finally decide to start going past my NDL.

Well, ordered my octo today!  I've been talking back and forth on another forum (Scubaboard.com) about what octo I should go with for my new setup.  I ended up purchasing the Mares Brigade Viper.  It's quite funny looking, but is guaranteed to not freeflow, and can be breathed from any position without having to worry about harder breathing etc.
