New from Tupelo.
« on: June 14, 2007, 05:39:58 AM »
I am new to MS Scubaboard, but have been diving for about six years.  Cozziegirl is my wife and dive buddy.  We have been back in Tupelo for four years, but we don't get to dive as much as we would like.  We try to take one big trip per year and a few small ones in between.  Our favorite places are Cozumel and Costa Rica.  Our next trip (big one) is back to Costa Rica (Pacific side) in July.  WooHoo!

Welcome to MSscuba!

We're glad you stopped by and decided to post!  Also, thanks for filling out your profile!

Michael and myself are still scoping out a new dive location, it has emerald green water and it fed by a natural spring.  One of the MSscuba members is coming to Jackson this Friday to do a pH test on the water (that's what Michael told me).  Hopefully it's all good and we have ourselves a new dive location!

I'm sure we aren't supposed to even be near this new location, but there are no signs posted.. unless you consider the large concrete cylinders that are laid across the entry way a 'sign'  ;D

Would this be they spring lakes off of Hwy 18?  If so lots of kids swim in them during the summer but I don't know how deep they are.

welcome also from Tupelo! I work down at Signs First.

have you heard anything about Scuba South?
I have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men.

No those are called the Marquette Lakes (sp?) and there are 3 of them.  We dove one, which had 8-10' vis and was a whoppin' 11' deep!  Not worth it IMO.

The place we're scouting now is out by Piney Wood school.  It's 'supposed' to be about 90' deep but that's TBD.

If you know where Piney Wood school is (right outside of Star, MS), just head toward it down 49 South.  There is a white fence that starts at the end of the Piney Woods property, there is a small road right next to where the fence starts.  You take that road about 1.5 miles back (it's a gravel road) until you see the big concrete blocks, and your there!

It's private property, we haven't dove it yet, but was told it's 90' in the middle (TBD).  :)

Btw, there are no signs posted.
