Lost computer on the Oriskany
« on: May 07, 2007, 07:38:57 AM »
Well, my nitrox computer is now nestled safely in the sand next to the Oriskany logging a 212 foot dive until the battery runs out.  I'm sure it's beeping like crazy.  So, my wrists are now bare and I need a basic nitrox computer AND a bottom timer if anybody has either one they want to sell (along with a really secure wrist band!).

Did you post on Scubaboard.com saying you lost your computer?  There are tech divers diving that wreck everyday, you may get lucky and someone find it and return it.  If you haven't already, I will post it on there for you!

Posted on SB on your behalf, hope you don't mind:

If you want, please post on here what part of the ship you lost it at, or where you think you might have lost it!  Or if you go to the thread I posted above, you can post on the thread telling them where!

Did you have it bungeed or was it the strap "watch strap" style?

Good examples on bungees:

I've read to many times the "watch" strap style breaking or coming unlatched.

Thanks Frank.  I hate to say it, but I think it very unlikely that my computer will be found.  Yes, Micheal, it was a ****** watch/velcro strap and I know better.  It actually works (worked!) perfectly with my dry suit, but I was diving wet and I apparently didn't get it on tightly enough.  There was someone in the water who watched me backroll and saw the computer come free, but didn't get my attention.  I didn't realize it was gone until I got on the wreck (I monintored my other gauge on the way down).  There was a pretty good current, so even though we were tied in close to the crow's nest, the computer drifted quite a bit in the current before sinking off the wreck in the sand (most likely).  The computer was a yellow DR NiTek with a blue band.

I might think of brining a camera underwater if I ever learn to keep up with my basic gear!

note to self, secure expensive equipment tightly..

Ouch, sorry about the computer I am rather envious of the dive itself. It will be a while before I can dive that deep, if ever *frightening thought to me*.

I bought a bottom timer and a basic nitrox computer from a friend but I haven't received them yet (they are both new).  They are currently in Pensacola and I can't wait to go and pick them up and try them out.
