Inland dive sites?
« on: May 16, 2010, 12:02:32 AM »
Well, since its looking like our gulf diving is off, does anyone have any inland recommendations? We are located in Hattiesburg and I imagine pretty soon I'm going to run out if ideas for things to do in the pool  :-\
Sea Urchin's Dive shop owner recommended Okatoma Creek for treasure diving at one of several falls locations but he said vis is usually pretty low (around 3ft) but depth could get to 15ft in some places. He says people tend to flip and loose things quite often in some spots. We are going on a canoe trip on the 5th with friends, I will scope out some possible locations then. If it as just me an the hubby we would lug the gear but I doubt any of the others are going to want to stop and explore much.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

i dive the oaktoma about 3 times a year. if u want to get wet it's ok. i walk in from fairchilds landing. i'm looking to go next weekend if it doesn't rain to much. just watch out for the current it can turn u around and u end up under the ledge without knowing it.

We have not went yet. Looks like some friends are going to canoe the Bogue Chitto on Saturday, I may toss the gear in just in case we get a good hole to explore. One friend reports finding a sunken 1930s car and Id love to go down and see it.
At this point anything is better than the pool.

Allen over at Sea Urchins mentioned the juncture of the Leaf and Bouie as a potential site. He said to walk up the Bouie about 100yrds and there was a place worth looking at.

We are going to try to Bogue Chitto on Saturday if we find a hole while canoeing. Like I said, anything is better than the pool at this point.
