Hi guys, been a little while. Anyway I wanted to pop in and show the newest additions to my gearbag and to ask a question. Here it is;

We picked up the Sherwood reg and 1st stage friday from a guy on Craigslist. He was gracious enough to allow me to pick it up, bring it home and test it out before actually buying. Ill send him payment of 50.00 tomorrow.

The Scubapro Octo and low pressure hose we picked up at a thrift shop last summer for $2.50.

We tested the entire rig yesterday in the pool and it did much better than I thought. The sherwood set up has a leak here;

and here;

The leak is in the swivel joint, not the actual coupling. My question here is can a leak be fixed there are does the hose need replacing?

The Octo performed flawlessly and was actually easier to use than any regulator Ive used yet.

Of course everything will be taken to the LDS for servicing before we actually go out diving. I wanted to get a feel for things by getting in some pool time, and frankly was really itching to go down, even if it was just in the pool.

Eventually Ill get a new mares proton set up like my husbands and this one will become a save-a-dive but for now once its serviced it will be my primary. The dive computer was not included, thats my husbands. Im just happy this is one less item I have to rent.

The "leak" on the first stage is actually a sherwood design feature and is suppose to do that . I have 3 sets that i bought new and all do it. There was a tag on them to explain that it is normal. It explained why, but I don't remember that part.

The LDS will have a better recommendation on the hose/swivel question. I had/have a command air set that I sent to Scubatoys.com for servicing and they were unable to do it. It is an obsolete reg and they didn't have/ couldn't get repair parts for it. I've got a couple sherwood magnums I've retired because I've updated, not because they were inadequate. They are a great reg and almost indestructable. My black water reg is identical to the one pictured here. tough, dependable, and easily serviced.

Good luck and happy diving.

Thanks Rebel, I joined over at scubaboards and they told me the same. Not why but they told me it is a design feature. Glad my hubby left his tools in the van or he would have been trying to fix it. They also told me that Sherwood dated alot of their regs and according to what they said my unit was made in 1987.

I also talked to the LDS this morning and he said the hose leak was an 0-ring leak and perfectly fixable for about 5.00.
